Shanghai is the cradle of Chinese broadcasting industry and the hub of traditional opera performances. With the advent of radio technology in 20th century, Shanghai produced its own traditional opera radio programs. Inheriting the long-lasting traditions and over a century’s accumulation, FM97.2 is committed to carrying forward the 70-year aspiration of Radio Shanghai. Since Radio Shanghai was first aired on 27 May 1949, content has been enriched from the most popular Pingtan and Yue opera to many other traditional operas. It is now an integral part of Shanghai’s broadcasting community.

Zhang Yuan

Zhang Yuan is an editor and host of traditional opera and crosstalk programs. His career covers programs on music, entertainment, news and information and traditional opera. With expertise in traditional opera performing skills, he presents Charm of Traditional Operas, Sing for Joy and 6+1, which enjoy a wide recognition among the insiders and the audience.

Liang Hui

Since Liang Hui joined Radio Shanghai in 1992, he has made the appearance in variety shows, children programs and programs on culture and music. He has presented dozens of novels, broadcasting documentaries and renowned radio programs including A Good Time and Liang Hui’s Legal Report. Liang Hui won the title of China’s Excellent Novel Narrator in 2001.

Ye Jin

Ye Jin is the only male broadcaster whose program is completely presented in Shanghainese. His persistence in using Shanghainese is promoting its prosperity in the broadcasting industry.

Xiao Ling

Xiao Ling is the only female broadcaster whose program is completely presented in Shanghainese. She joined Radio Shanghai in 1983, began to work with Wan Yangzu and Li Zheng and learnt from them. Her elegance and posh pronunciation render the local dialect more charm.

Jian Ping

Jian Ping worked as a Shanghai opera performer after graduation from a traditional opera school. He became a host in the late 1990s and presented news, cultural and interviewing programs later. His insights into traditional operas and humorous comments make him very popular among the young audience.

Yuan Yuan

Over 10 years’ experience makes Yuan Yuan a versatile director, editor and host. She is the winner of Starlight Award, China TV Golden Eagle Award, Orchid Awards and CRTA Award. Yuan Yuan stays true to her original aspiration and carries forward traditional culture in a modern manner.

Shen Tian

Shen Tian joined Traditional Opera Radio in 2015 after graduating from the broadcasting and hosting department at Shanghai Theatre Academy. She is the host of Yue and Shanghai Opera, Huaiyang Opera as well as the editor of To Wang Xiaomao. Her elegant and steady manner is widely recognized by the audience.

Ren Lichen

Ren Lichen is a senior editor and Shanghainese host familiar with various traditional opera forms and Shanghai culture. He is now the editor and host of Sing and the editor of Huaiyang Opera. In this new era, Ren is willing to be a trailblazer to promote traditional art and Shanghai culture.

Chun Chun
